Yesterday, May 4th, the Dutch commemorated the victims of the Second World War. Photographer Jeroen Hofman – who often works from an aerial platform, which he operates himself – made this beautiful, but stunning, chilling series of places in Amsterdam where Jews were gathered before they were deported. (101.800 from a total of 140.000 Dutch Jews were killed or died of illness or exhaustion during World War II.)
The assignment was commissioned by the Amsterdam Committee for 4 and 5 May and the Jewish Cultural Quarter. It was 75 years ago the Second World War ended for the Dutch. Shalom!
